RF Tightening Treatment

RF Tightening Treatment
What is radiofrequency (RF)?

Radiofrequency (RF) refers to the frequency of oscillations per unit of time, specifically within the range of 3 kHz to 300 GHz, falling within the low-frequency spectrum of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation. The treatment is performed using the certified Accent device, which is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is the only device that combines two types of RF technology: monopolar and bipolar radiofrequencies.

It is a non-invasive treatment aimed at skin tightening. Thanks to its specialized technology, it delivers thermal energy to the deeper layers of the skin—precisely where collagen fibers are located—raising the temperature to 41–43°C. This results in the immediate contraction of the fibers and, consequently, skin tightening, while also stimulating collagen production in the epidermis.

RF TIGHTENING TREATMENT
Everything You Need to Know
1
How effective is it?

Radiofrequency is one of the most effective therapeutic methods for addressing skin laxity in the field of aesthetic dermatology. It is a non-invasive treatment that targets body tightening, fat reduction, and the improvement of cellulite.

This is a specialized treatment that delivers heat beneath the skin down to the fatty tissue, enhancing skin circulation and helping to shrink fat cells, tighten and tone the skin, and increase its elasticity, while also providing a particularly pleasant sensation to the body.

2
What are the applications of radiofrequency?

Radiofrequency serves as a therapeutic key for improving various aesthetic concerns, including:

  • Skin tightening on the body (addressing laxity due to weight loss or aging) as well as on the face (improving fine lines and facial contour)
  • Reduction of localized fat
  • Improvement of skin texture with an orange peel appearance (cellulite)
  • Improvement of acne scars (Fractional RF Microneedling)
3
Types of radiofrequency and mechanism

The types of radiofrequency include monopolar, bipolar, and their variations with alternating poles. Monopolar radiofrequency (Accent RF unipolar) can penetrate up to 20 mm without damaging the skin surface, targeting fat mass and superficial trapped fat. In contrast, bipolar radiofrequency (Accent RF bipolar) penetrates 2 to 6 mm, causing collagen fiber contraction, resulting in immediate tightening while also stimulating fibroblasts to produce new fibers.

Additionally, both the monopolar and bipolar handpieces contain a coordinated radiofrequency mechanism that includes a thermoelectric coupling (TEC) cooling system and an activation switch. These two handpieces can be used individually or sequentially within the same treatment. The Accent system is FDA and CE certified and is completely safe.

4
How is the type of radiofrequency selected in each case?

Radiofrequency is an effective therapeutic tool for improving various aesthetic concerns such as:

Its selection depends on:

  • Skin thickness
  • Anatomical location
  • Type of concern being treated

Guideline:

Monopolar radiofrequency is used for deep stimulation and action, while bipolar radiofrequency is used for more superficial effects.

5
Is the energy applied the same in all cases?

No, it depends on the thickness of the tissue and primarily on the tissue's resistance. The higher the resistance, the greater the energy required.

6
What are the clinical signs indicating the completion of the therapeutic process in each area?
  • Clinical erythema of the area
  • Maintenance of temperature at 40–42°C for 2–5 minutes
  • Visible clinical improvement of the area
  • Achievement of the overall “target” for each treatment zone
7
Who is RF treatment intended for and on which areas can it be applied?

Radiofrequency can be applied to both men and women in all areas where skin laxity and cellulite are observed. More specifically, it can be used on the face (for more defined contours and smoother skin), neck,

knees, arms, inner thighs, buttocks (for lifting), abdomen, and more. It is suitable for all skin types and can be performed throughout the year.

ΣΥΝΕΔΡΙΕΣ ΚΑΙ ΑΠΟΤΕΛΕΣΜΑΤΑ
Number of Sessions

The total number of sessions required in each case depends on the severity and individual needs of the patient. Typically, a complete protocol includes 5–6 sessions, scheduled every 15 days. The first results are usually visible after the 3rd or 4th session.

Visible Results

RF radiofrequency treatments offer noticeable and satisfying results. They contribute to body contouring, skin tightening, cellular renewal, and improved skin circulation and quality. It is an ideal method for areas affected by cellulite, fat accumulation, and skin laxity. Its properties make it an excellent choice for regions with localized fat, such as the arms, thighs, abdomen, buttocks, and knees.

LPG Endermologie Treatment

For even better results, RF therapy is often combined with LPG endermologie, performed sequentially. Additionally, it can be paired with HIFU treatment (high-intensity focused ultrasound).

Post-Treatment Instructions

  • No recovery time is required
  • Immediate return to daily activities
  • Adequate fluid intake is recommended
  • Consistent use of sun protection is essential

Myth
RF treatment will make me lose weight.
Truth
RF treatment is not a weight-loss method. It helps improve skin laxity and reduce localized fat. However, for the treatment to deliver optimal results, it must be combined with a balanced diet and regular physical exercise.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We answer all your questions

Radiofrequency can indeed be combined with other aesthetic procedures, thereby enhancing the overall cosmetic outcome for each area. On the face, it can be combined with botulinum toxin, mesotherapy, hyaluronic acid, chemical peeling, fractional laser, or SkinPen, depending on the skin’s specific needs—provided that the practitioner follows the correct treatment sequence, ensuring that one procedure does not interfere with or negate the effect of another.
On the body, RF is commonly combined with mesotherapy, endermologie (LPG), cryolipolysis, or HIFU.

No, radiofrequency is a painless treatment and, on the contrary, creates a sensation of relaxation due to the warmth generated in the area where the application is performed.

Contraindications: Radiofrequency is contraindicated in individuals with a history of malignancy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in cases of active connective tissue disease, in patients with metallic implants, and in those with severe systemic illnesses. Caution is required in the presence of varicose veins and phlebitis.

Side effects: Serious side effects are not reported, provided that basic therapeutic guidelines are followed.

Body Threads

Body Threads
What Are Body Threads and How Do They Work?

Threads are a widely used, non-invasive anti-ageing treatment that targets the reduction of wrinkles, the improvement of skin laxity, and the enhancement of skin firmness. At our dermatology clinic, we utilize two types of threads: PDO and COG. At Skin and Hair, the choice of threads to be applied is determined following a personalized assessment of the condition by Dr. Sotiris Theocharis.

A successful treatment outcome and patient satisfaction depend heavily on a precise evaluation of the issue, the dermatologist’s advanced technical expertise during application, and, most importantly, the establishment of realistic expectations regarding the final result.

BODY THREADS
Everything You Need to Know
1
PDO Threads

Standard PDO threads are inserted in groups depending on the concern being addressed, and this technique is known as mesothreads. PDO threads are fine and absorbable. They are made of polydioxanone (PDO), a bioresorbable and fully biocompatible material that meets European safety standards (CE). This material has been used for years in surgical procedures, especially for wound suturing.

The treating dermatologist inserts the fine PDO threads horizontally or vertically, based on the needs of the targeted area, using a small needle. From the moment of insertion, a dense mesh is formed that supports the tissues, creating a stabilizing structure that gradually helps the skin remain lifted in the correct position. Simultaneously, the body responds to the presence of this new material by increasing blood flow locally, which stimulates fibroblasts and enhances the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. As a result, the skin appears firmer and its overall texture is visibly improved.

2
COG Threads

COG threads are made of polydioxanone or polylactic acid and feature a barbed design with small hooks along their entire length, allowing them to anchor the skin in the desired lifting points. This structure provides a lifting effect in the treated area through the repositioning of the tissues, which is why they are often referred to as suspension threads. Simultaneously, due to the microtrauma they induce in the tissue, they stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. At the dermatology clinic Skin and Hair, both types of threads are used following an individualized assessment of the problem by Dr. Sotiris Theocharis. Accurate diagnosis of the concern, expert application technique by the treating dermatologist, and the establishment of realistic expectations for the outcome are all critical components for achieving optimal therapeutic results and patient satisfaction.

3
Where body threads are applied

Body threads can be applied to any area showing signs of skin laxity, such as:

  • Face – neck
  • Upper arms
  • Abdomen
  • Thighs – buttocks
  • Knees
4
Who is not a suitable candidate for body thread treatment

Body thread application is not recommended for the following groups:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active acne
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Use of anticoagulant medication in the past 3 days
  • Active herpes infection
  • Individuals with diabetes
  • Active dermatological condition in the treatment area
  • Cancer patients
5
Side effects of body thread treatment

Body thread application generally does not present significant side effects, but some undesired symptoms may occur—some more frequently than others. The most common include bruising in the treated area, localized tenderness, swelling, and redness. Less commonly, inflammation or an allergic reaction may occur.

6
Duration of body thread treatment results

The results of body thread treatments typically last from 12 to 18 months, depending on factors such as the individual’s skin quality, age, lifestyle, and the type of threads used. Periodic maintenance sessions may be recommended to sustain and enhance the results over time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We answer all your questions

Before the insertion of threads into the body, a local anesthetic is applied in order to minimize any discomfort during the treatment. The entire thread insertion procedure takes approximately 30–40 minutes. You may return to your daily activities immediately afterward; however, physical exercise should be avoided for the first few days following the treatment.

Body threads can indeed be combined with other aesthetic procedures, such as hyaluronic acid injections and body mesotherapy, provided that the appropriate protocols regarding treatment sequence and the necessary intervals between sessions are strictly followed.

Body thread application is performed in a single session. Since the results can last up to two years, the treatment may be repeated after this period to maintain the achieved outcome.

Allogeneic Mesotherapy for the Body

Body Aesthetic Treatments
Allogeneic Mesotherapy for the Body
What is Allogeneic Mesotherapy for the Body?

Allogeneic mesotherapy for the body refers to the injection of specialized substances beneath the epidermis, into the middle layer of the skin—the dermis—which is primarily composed of connective tissue fibers and is responsible for nourishing and supporting the skin. Through the intradermal administration of lipolytic agents, vitamins, and enzymes, this treatment aims to reduce the appearance of orange-peel skin and sculpt the body’s contours. Additionally, it enhances skin firmness by providing hydration. Finally, it targets skin laxity, cellulite, localized fat, and the natural signs of skin aging.

ALLOGENEIC MESOTHERAPY FOR THE BODY
Everything You Need to Know
1
How does body mesotherapy work?

Localized lipodystrophy, or cellulite, is considered a pathological condition of the dermal and subcutaneous tissues, characterized by impaired blood and lymphatic circulation. This results in the uneven distribution of fat molecules within the connective tissue and water retention in the area. The injectable product administered to the patient (which varies depending on the area requiring improvement) neutralizes the accumulation of toxic substances (such as iron and hemosiderin),

which leads to the enlargement of adipocytes and contributes to the improvement of the appearance of cellulite. Additionally, through this injectable treatment, the skin is replenished with essential substances necessary for hydration and renewal. The skin becomes firmer, and the overall appearance of the treated area is significantly improved.

2
What does it contain and on which areas of the body can heterologous mesotherapy be performed?

In most cases, the material used in mesotherapy contains a combination of active ingredients, the most common of which are hyaluronic acid, caffeine, EDTA, and mannitol. Heterologous mesotherapy is primarily applied to the thighs and buttocks; however, the treatment can be performed on any area of the body where cellulite or localized fat is present.

3
Who is heterologous mesotherapy suitable for?

The dermatologist is the one who will assess each case individually and recommend the appropriate treatment according to the person’s skin needs and requirements. Nevertheless, heterologous mesotherapy is a treatment that is suitable for a wide age range and can be applied to both women and men.

It is primarily intended for individuals whose skin requires rejuvenation, hydration, firming, and anti-wrinkle action.

4
How many sessions are needed and when will I see results?

The number of sessions required varies depending on the extent of the concern, the treatment area, and the individual’s response to therapy. Typically, a course of 4 to 6 sessions, spaced one week apart, is recommended for optimal results. Visible improvement is usually observed after the third session, with progressive enhancement over time. The skin becomes more hydrated, firm, and smooth, while the appearance of cellulite and localized fat is noticeably reduced. Maintenance sessions may be suggested at regular intervals to preserve the results.

5
Contraindications of Heterologous Mesotherapy
  • The treatment is not recommended for individuals with:

    • Dermatological conditions in the area of application
    • Sensitivity to any of the substances contained in the injection cocktail
    • Blood coagulation disorders
    • Diabetes
    • Coronary artery disease
    • Pregnancy
    • Immunodeficiencies and cancer
6
Adverse Effects of Heterologous Mesotherapy

Adverse effects following body mesotherapy are rare. However, the individual may occasionally experience mild pain, swelling, itching, and redness at the injection site.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We answer all your questions

Body mesotherapy is an injectable treatment that is not considered particularly painful. However, to minimize any potential discomfort, it is recommended to apply a topical anesthetic cream to the area prior to the procedure.

Body mesotherapy is an injectable treatment that can be performed throughout the year, including the summer months. However, it is important to avoid sun exposure for the first few days following the procedure. If sun exposure is unavoidable afterward, proper sun protection should be applied to the treated area.

    •
    4
Which areas of the body can be treated with LPG?

The device offers targeted programs for the treatment of cellulite and localized fat in nearly all areas of the body. LPG treatment can be applied to the following areas:

    • Arms
    • Stomach
    • Abdomen – love handles
    • Buttocks
    • Back
    • Waist
    • Thighs
    • Calves
    5
    Recommended Sessions

Typically, 10–20 sessions are recommended, though this number may be adjusted depending on individual needs. Sessions are performed 1 to 2 times per week and usually last 30–35 minutes. Depending on the severity of the concern, treatment may span 2.5 to 3 months. Initial signs of improvement are often observed after 5–6 sessions.

However, according to the DERMSCAN Endermologie® study (2016), just 3 sessions can lead to a 71% improvement in skin quality, making the skin visibly firmer and more toned. Cellulite smoothing may improve by 67%, lymphatic circulation can increase by up to 400%, and after 12 sessions, waist circumference may be reduced by up to 5 cm.

For optimal results, it is recommended to continue with maintenance therapy, performing 1–2 sessions per month. Additionally, combining lipomassage with other related treatments—such as radiofrequency (e.g., Accent), cryolipolysis, mesotherapy, or thread lifting—is advised.

This body treatment, like all those offered in our clinic, is always recommended in conjunction with a balanced, mindful diet and mild physical activity. We often suggest aerobic exercise immediately after each session to enhance the lymphatic drainage of toxins and fatty acids released during the lipomassage.

Moreover, no downtime is required after treatment.

    6
    Contraindications – Limitations

LPG lipomassage – Endermologie is generally a safe and non-invasive procedure. There are no significant side effects associated with the use of LPG devices. However, caution is advised in cases where there are pre-existing surgical scars or varicosities in the treatment areas.

    7
Strict contraindications for the Endermologie® technique include:
      • Active cancer
      • Infection or skin rash
      • Diseases with inflammatory components
      • Anticoagulant therapy
      • Hematological disorders

Individuals with hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, or those undergoing long-term corticosteroid therapy tend to respond less effectively to these treatments.

In any case, thorough patient briefing, continuous supervision, and medical oversight of the treatment process ensure both optimal results and high patient satisfaction.

    Myth
    1. LPG treatment can completely eliminate cellulite.
    2. LPG treatment alone can result in weight loss.
    3. LPG is more effective only on mild forms of cellulite.
    4. LPG treatment is exclusively for women.
    Truth
    1. LPG treatment can significantly improve the appearance of orange-peel skin, but maintenance sessions are required. (The frequency of maintenance varies depending on individual needs.)
    2. LPG treatment contributes to weight loss when combined with proper hydration, a balanced diet, and regular exercise.
    3. The advanced Alliance technology effectively targets all types of cellulite, from superficial to deep-set.
    4. Both women and men may face issues such as localized fat accumulation, lymphatic congestion, and fluid retention. Therefore, LPG is suitable for all genders.

    Cellulite Treatment with Subcision

Body Aesthetic TreatmentsAesthetic Dermatology – Body
    Cellulite Treatment with Subcision
    What is subcision?

It is a minimally invasive aesthetic body treatment that involves subcutaneous undermining of the skin using a blunt, specialized cannula. The procedure achieves the release of fibrous adhesions responsible for the development of lipodystrophy, commonly known as cellulite.

    CELLULITE TREATMENT WITH SUBCISION
    Everything you need to know
    1
    1) Who is it for?

Regardless of age, body type, weight, or lifestyle, cellulite can be observed in the vast majority of individuals, as its presence is primarily attributed to genetic factors. Other contributors to the development and worsening of cellulite include:

    • aging,
    • hormonal imbalances,
    • smoking,
    • lack of physical activity,
    • rapid fluctuations in body weight,
    • poor dietary habits.
    2
    2) Subcision Procedure

The subcision technique involves the use of a blunt-tipped, specialized cannula, which is inserted under the skin through a small incision. The purpose of this minimally invasive procedure is to sever the fibrous septae—tight connective tissue bands that tether the skin to the underlying structures—responsible for the dimpled appearance characteristic of cellulite. By releasing these fibrous adhesions, the skin is allowed to elevate and smooth out, significantly improving the appearance of orange peel-like texture. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and typically takes 30–60 minutes, depending on the extent and number of areas being treated. Mild bruising or tenderness may occur in the treated areas, which subsides within a few days.

    3
    3) How many subcision treatment sessions will I need?

The application of the treatment is personalized according to the degree of cellulite and the specific needs of the skin in order to improve the affected area, and typically ranges from 1 to 3 sessions.

    4
    4) When will I see the results of the treatment?

The results of the treatment become visible as early as the second day. (It should be noted that, in some cases, due to swelling in the area, the initial appearance may not accurately reflect the final outcome.) However, the final result is typically observed approximately 4 to 6 months after the treatment, and its effects can last up to two years. For optimal results, the subcision treatment may be combined with the application of hyaluronic acid and radiofrequency (RF) therapy.

    5
    5) Who is not a candidate for subcision treatment?

Patients who should not undergo subcision therapy include:

    • Patients with dermatological conditions or active infections in the treatment area
    • Patients with immunodeficiencies
    • Cancer patients
    • Pregnant women
    • Patients with coagulation disorders
    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
    We answer all your questions

Subcision is a minimally invasive procedure that requires no recovery time. The individual can immediately return to their daily activities. The main side effect that may occur is bruising. However, localized swelling, mild pain, and redness in the treated area may also be observed.

Intense physical activity should be avoided for one week following the treatment.
